Don't Lose a Valuable HFS Service - Opt-In to Courtesy Pay

New legislation that will take effect this summer requires us to ask members to "opt-in" for Courtesy Pay for one-time debit card transactions. If you do not opt-in to this service, beginning August 15, 2010 HFS will no longer cover transactions that may bring your account negative. Instead these transactions will be declined and you may face a very embarrassing and inconvenient situation. What is Courtesy Pay?

Courtesy Pay is a service HFS offers to its account holders where HFS uses its discretion to authorize and pay transactions that otherwise would have brought your account negative and have been declined. Most of our members have this service but never use it, however in certain situations this added protection to your account may come in handy.

What does Overdraft Protection and Courtesy Pay cost?

Setting up Overdraft Protection from your share account costs you nothing. These transfers are free however there are limits to the amount of transfers that may be done each month. Another alternative is to transfer money from a personal line of credit loan, however, members who do so, may incur interest charges.

Courtesy Pay costs you nothing unless you use it. When used, you will be charged a $20.00 fee each time an item clears and there are insufficient funds in the account.

How soon can I use my Courtesy Pay?

Account holders may qualify for Courtesy Pay 60 days after the account is opened. Eligible accounts are qualified for Courtesy Pay at the sole discretion of HFS. Accounts must remain in good standing to be eligible for Courtesy Pay.

What types of transactions are covered or qualify for Courtesy Pay?

The following types of transactions are those that may cause overdrafts and may be eligible for Courtesy Pay.

  • Personal Checks
  • Automatic Bill Payments
  • ACH Transfers
  • Debit Card Transactions

How do I know when my account is overdrawn and Courtesy Pay is used?

Each time your account is overdrawn and/or paid by Courtesy Pay you will receive a notice in the mail. This notice will include basic information regarding the transaction and fees charged.

How do I sign up for Courtesy Pay?

There is no action that you need to complete to sign up for courtesy pay for most transactions. However, you must Opt-in to have courtesy pay for your one-time debit card transactions.

How do I Opt-In to Courtesy Pay for one-time debit card transactions?

To opt-in to courtesy pay for one-time debit card transactions you must simply complete and turn in a Courtesy Pay Service Request Form which may be printed out (Click Here) and dropped off at any of our six convenient branch locations or by mail at:

What if I do not want Courtesy Pay for my account?
